Listen to the New M83 Album

Anthony Gonzalez has changed. M83 started as an instrumental shoegaze outfit, ten years later they’ve made a subtle, slippery transition over four albums into, this. In a recent Pitchfork interview Gonzalez talks openly about the role nostalgia plays in his music. And it’s not the misplaced stuff of the half-remembered high school years. Well it’s that too, but it’s really the kind of nostalgia you feel when you hear the music of your childhood. It’s the first time you realized how amazing Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sandess was. It’s hitting the high note in “Take on Me”. It’s dozens of different emotions in a very tight space pushing each other around.

This is Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming.

James Blake Returns with New EP "Enough Thunder"

James Blake, a currently enrolled and officially enshrined member of the “Kevin’s Can-Do-No-Wrong” club, is set to release his first followup to his breathtaking self-titled debut LP. The six song EP, titled Enough Thunder is available now. Check out the whole ding dang thing below. Of note is the inclusion of Blake’s cover of Joni Mitchell’s classic “A Case of You” which I sufficiently gushed about when it first surfaced.

Check out this recent quote from Blake about the douchebagerization of dubstep in America, and listen to his musical response…

“I think the dubstep that has come over to the US, and certain producers– who I can’t even be bothered naming– have definitely hit upon a sort of frat-boy market where there’s this macho-ism being reflected in the sounds and the way the music makes you feel. And to me, that is a million miles away from where dubstep started. It’s a million miles away from the ethos of it. It’s been influenced so… much by electro and rave, into who can make the dirtiest, filthiest bass sound, almost like a pissing competition, and that’s not really necessary. And I just think that largely that is not going to appeal to women. I find that whole side of things to be pretty frustrating, because that is a direct misrepresentation of the sound as far as I’m concerned.”

For some reason I can’t get the widget to embed, so just follow this link to stream the EP.
