Daayve Hawk’s a cool guy, he manages to a be a single, stay at home dad and support himself and his son through his music.
In 2008 Dayve Hawk (as Memory Tapes) quitely released an album that transcended the chillwave surroundings from which it sprang. That album Seek Magic was gently powerful, some of the most emotive music of that year. There’s no denying the sense of nostalgia that’s transmitted through his music, but at times it still manages to delight in a decidedly modern way thanks in large part to Hawk’s production chops.
Now, after a long three years, comes the follow up Player Piano. The album scans less soaring and sentimental than its predecessor. I haven’t full digested it yet, but here’s a link to not only stream the whole thing, but read a brief track-by-track explanation by Hawk himself.
